Series contents Chapter 10 of 19
Understand your Masters and choose your next worthwhile upgrade. 13 guides and 6 practical reference sheets on Valora, Pan and Roman: a clear explanation, a next step, and the useful details close at hand.
See the series overviewSave a major expense for an event that is coming soon if it brings a useful reward. Do not automatically wait weeks for a bonus that could start helping you now.
Compare two kinds of value: what the expense unlocks on your account and what good timing adds to it.
First, follow your kingdom's guidance
If your kingdom is preparing for a kingdom versus kingdom war and asks players to save certain resources, take that into account. A small individual gain may not capture the collective interest.
But establish what the request actually is: keeping items, avoiding a power increase and waiting for a particular phase are different rules. Do not assume that ordinary learning or a relationship upgrade automatically has no bearing on preparation guidance.
Check the action, not just the event's name
Stages of State of Power, the Governor's Contest and other events may reward spending Manuscripts, Emblems or learning speedups.
Open the scoring rules for the active stage. The same resource may count one day and not the next. An older edition's rules are no guarantee for your kingdom.
Three misunderstandings can be costly: owning a resource is not necessarily the same as using it; letting a timer finish naturally is not the same as using a speedup; converting a general Emblem is not necessarily the action an event rewards.
Learning, speeding up and paying are separate
Depending on a skill's current state, you may be able to prepare learning XP before paying Manuscripts to advance a level. That can sometimes let you keep the Manuscripts for the right stage without leaving the queue idle throughout.
Do not automatically count waiting days as event points, however. If a task rewards minutes of speedups used, it is the item consumed that counts, not the mere passage of time.
Check how the active event treats general speedups used in the Academy. Whether they work for learning and whether they count for event scoring are separate questions.
What you give up by waiting
With Valora, delaying a reward level may mean missing hammers or Equipment XP from upcoming hunts.
With Pan, delaying an advancement may mean missing daily chests if you gather enough to benefit from improved Expertise.
With Roman, delaying Expertise may mean missing extra chests from Arena battles you will actually play.
A short wait may cost very little. The point is to consider the cost instead of treating stockpiling as free.
Two situations to help you decide
The event starts soon; the upgrade can wait
You have an expensive final upgrade, no hunt before the event and an event reward milestone that spending would reach.
Waiting makes sense. You get the same bonus a little later and add an event reward. Still check which day the resource counts.
The bonus pays out daily; the event is far away
A Pan milestone is ready and you gather regularly. The next event is distant, with no clearly reachable extra reward from this spending.
Upgrading now may make sense, subject to collective guidance. You begin benefiting from the Expertise instead of delaying its output for an uncertain event gain.
These situations illustrate how to reason; they are not universal calendar rules.
General Emblems: check before converting
The scoring rules reviewed for some competitions explicitly exclude general Emblems. Other descriptions are less precise.
Do not assume that every conversion scores points. Read the exact wording and, if uncertainty remains, compare the counter before and after a small action you already intended to take. Do not spend a large stock only to discover afterward that the task did not count it.
The decision in four lines
What do I gain now? A specific effect, not merely a level.
How often would that bonus help before the event? Count hunts, gathering days or Arena battles you will really play.
What do the extra points earn me? A reward within reach, not an impressive number by itself.
Have I checked the right stage and the guidance? Without that, the rest of the comparison may be wrong.
The daily and event checklist collects these checks for quick reference.
